About Derek
Derek’s intimate connection with music started at birth. His father performed as a guitarist/bassist/pedal steel guitarist with such acts as Dick Dale, Freddie Fender, & the Grateful Dead. His father also built & ran a professional recording studio out their home, so Derek not only grew up watching his father perform on stage, but also was completely immersed in music at home throughout his childhood.
With over 20 years of experience performing, touring, and recording as a professional percussionist, Derek has studied advanced technique with percussion giants Ndugu Chancler, David Elitch, and Chris Coleman.
